Substrack is crazy ! Can't believe that YOU (being you) and .. well ME (nobody) gets to share on the same plateform (obvisouly not having the same "impact" but oh well :) ) !

I get the streak thing, I'm sending my 18th weekly newsletter today (to my 50 reader, including largely family ;D) !! Thanks again and can't wait to read you here - Welcome !

I feel the same way . . it's great being part of a community. And congrats on the 18-in-a-row. It's such a great life hack to not want to "break a streak". In addition to my Duolingo streak (now at 390 thank you very much) I'm now at 33 consecutive weeks with a new blog post - tomorrow you'll all see #34.

Congrats on new Duolingo haha - I learn languages with Busuu, bit more complete than duo if you wanna check it out. Can't wait for the next post and cheers to "not breaking a streak!"

This community is so connected. As a writer early in my career, I feel so lucky to be living in the Substack age where I can glean directly from the wisdom of people like you, Marc. Excited you’ve joined the rodeo!!

Thanks Lindsey! I'm excited about being here amongst other writers. Now where are my cowboy boots!

Marc, Thank you for making your writing free. I too am writing on Substack and so far have given away subscriptions. Wishing I could afford to continue a free post, but I am retired and the extra income would be so helpful these days. What advise do you have for a newby writer who feels their message is important but promotion and technology has gone so far beyond a once tech-savvy 70 yr old :) I am so amazed you are here. How wonderful and again Thank You for being a part of an everyday folk community ... still can't believe it is you, just wow!

Looking forward to reading the ‘stupid things’ that pop into your head! 🫶🏽

Oh my, Tacita. Be careful what you wish for.

Nice, I like to write the “stupid things that pop in to my head as well’ -so much for finding a niche- but I have numerous and multiple interests and many years under my belt -so be it!

I can’t wait to read your words here! Wow what a privilege.

Thank you for joining us aspiring writers on Substack and continue to inspire us.

Hello and welcome Marc!! Gotta tell you I'm over excited you're here. Congratulations for everything but most of all that Duolingo streak. I might have missed it (sorry) but what are you learning? That's such an exciting accomplishment, you must be over the 400 day streak by now. I'm in the UK but I bet you can hear me clapping for you.

I've a cheeky ask. I'm 10 so I get to be cheeky. Will you feature on my written podcast interview series here on my Substack? It's early days for me and I'd be squealing with happiness if you say yes. I MEAN it.

I've got a form to make it all easy.

No matter what, it's a thrill to meet you here.

I love your weekly email, Marc! (And book and podcast). Excited you’re on Substack. I joined recently too, communicating my message of Self-Friendship™️, and have found the strength of this community, grounded in mutually supportive Writer’s, to be a wonderful way to invite an even more expansive community while sustaining the supportive nature!

Wait what? I can just directly message the Netflix guy? Hell yeah @substack rules. Time to ask some BIG questions........ So Marc, how much do you Bench?

Look forward to your content! I made Substack my home a number of months ago, and it truly is the home of writers. Happy to have you amongst our ranks!

And what a pleasure to be here.

Welcome Marc! Look forward to reading your writing here and having you as part of the community. Substack has been a great platform for me as a writer.

That's why I'm here! Eager to be part of the community.

But the real question is--with all that you're involved in, how are you going to squeeze in your substack?! 😜I can barely manage it working around my very mundane 9-5 job

Expand full comment

Isn't that what weekends are for?

Actually I do most of my writing on airplanes. I travel a lot and there's nothing like having 5 or 6 (or 15 or 16) hour of unbroken, undisturbed time, to write.

Also - I"m really fortunate that I no longer am constrained by a 9-5 job.

No lie--that's what I spend my Saturday doing, haha

Fujimura, in his book Faith and Art, takes this phrase-- used of Grendel in Beowulf--to describe people who venture to the edges of their 'tribe's' territory to listen to what nearby tribes are saying. It could be with evil intent as it was for Grendel. But it also can be peaceful and enriching through dialogue and mutual bridge-building, as he encourages.

Expand full comment

At the very least, understanding the other tribe can be a way to decide whether your following actions are peaceful and enriching or with evil intent.

As one trying to become what Makoto Fujimura calls a "border stalker" I am glad to join the conversation.

Sorry, but I have to ask . . . what's a "border stalker"?
