The mentors I’ve stumbled upon in my life have been happy accidents in the way you describe. And I find people are attracted to helping others who they see are working and trying to approve in their said arena.
Honestly. It’s hard. The community that follows me is big enough that it has overwhelmed my ability to network with people - other than at this level. And this is hard to maintain.
About 50 years ago, the State Department apparently was told about mentoring and thought this might be a good idea for its brand new Foreign Service Officers. This is why I was apparently assigned one. We met once. We might have clicked if I had any inkling that he was really interested in helping me - I was skeptical before, during, and after our one meeting. We never met again. Perhaps he was waiting for me to reach out (for help I didn't know I needed?), perhaps I was waiting for him to reach out to show he really was interested?
Clear, concise and practical advice on mentorship - well said!
Start collecting conversations 🎤🫳 Such a good way of putting it!

I will use this method for my culinary job hunt. Hope it works.
Good luck. It should work - it’s pretty universal.

If i had to pick the least likely way to make a mentoring relationship work, I might have to choose that one. Thanks for sharing.
I really wish I can edit that. Guess I will have read before I post.
